What To Pack For Snowboarding: Weekend Trip vs Week Long

What To Pack For Snowboarding: Weekend Trip vs Week Long

It doesn't matter if you are traveling overseas or to Perisher, forgetting something for your snowboarding trip can end up costing you a lot of money and causing some headaches. Doing a little preparation before you leave can help avoid this happening and potentially ruining your trip.

Snowboarding should be fun but it can also be dangerous, so it’s important that you have all the necessary accessories and safety items so you don’t have to worry while you ride. Think about the different terrain you may ride on, the weather conditions expected, items that make you more comfortable during your ride, and items “just in case”.

It will be a lot easier to have these items on hand rather than having to source them when you get there. It’s also the best way to ensure you have value for money items and those that are best suited to you, as you can take your time putting together your kit in the lead up.

Putting together your list ofwhat to pack for snowboarding can seem daunting at first, but it’s much easier once you break it down by the type of trip you are taking. Are you just going for the weekend, or will it be for a week or more? The longer you are away, the larger the variety of terrain and conditions you might encounter, which may call for different items of apparel and safety.

Once you have packed everything for your trip, also think about the items you will be carrying on your while you ride. Having the essentials on you will mean you can spend as much time as possible on the slopes rather than having to source gear you don’t need.

We have put together some lists to help you prepare for your next trip, whether that’s for a weekend or week-long. Packing for your snowboarding trip should be pretty straightforward, but items you need may change depending on how long your trip is, where you will be travelling and how you will be travelling there.

Let’s take a closer look.

Weekend Trip

If you have limited time on the slopes, you’ll want to ensure you don’t waste time trying to source items you’ve forgotten or running back to your locker room or car to grab things you’ve left behind.

Make sure you packessential snowboard accessories and also a way to keep all of these on you while you’re on the slopes. This could be in a comfortable day pack or in the pockets of your snowboard jacket and pants. Keeping all the essentials on you will be the best way to ensure you have everything you need and can ride comfortably and safely.

Week-Long Trip (or longer)

If you’re going to be away for a longer period, say a week or longer, you may need to pack a few more things to ensure you are properly prepared. While the basics will stay the same from the above, like snowboard, boots, jacket and pants, safety gear like goggles and gloves, and warm clothing, you may need things to ensure you are ready for changing conditions, terrain, and possible board repairs and maintenance.

Also, when taking on bigger mountains or longer runs, it’s important to include more things in your day pack.

Packing for flights

If you’re flying to your destination, there are a few things you’ll need to take into consideration. There will likely be baggage limits, so you may have to be more careful about what you pack, as well as ensuring your boards and boots are properly protected for transit. The best way to avoid any damage is to pack them into a protective snowboard bag and boot bag.

As well as the essentials you’ll need for the weekend and week-long trips, here’s a quick list of what you might need for your flight.

Our packing tips:

  • Passport (for international travel)
  • Money and identification
  • Neck pillow
  • Snowboard boot bag
  • Several changes of clothes
  • Compatible phone charger
  • Helmet camera or GoPro
  • Travel bag

These lists are by no means exhaustive. They’re just a guide to help you prepare for your next snowboarding adventure. Make sure you pack what makes you comfortable when you ride and have the basics and safety essentials.
